Violence Prevention
WorkSafe BC Teleclaim: 1.888.WORKERS (1.888.967.5377)
Responding to Violence
The District's Violence Prevention Program is mandated by WorkSafeBC. The GVTA was part of the working group that created the program.
The School-Based JOHS Committee, the Staff Committee, School-Based Team, and individual members all have a role in preventing and responding to violence. For advice, please contact healthandsafety@gvta.net.
If you have been involved in a violent incident, or witnessed a violent incident, the following steps should be taken:
Seek medical aid/first aid if necessary.
Fill out a Violent Incident Submission Form.
Keep a copy for your records.
Provide a copy to your principal.
If you were injured as a result of this violence, fill out a WorksafeBC Worker's Report of Injury or Occupational Disease to Employer 6A.
It is highly recommended that one calls in a tele-claim rather than submitting an online form.
If you missed work or had to access medical treatment, submit a claim for compensation to WorkSafeBC.
Inform your GVTA H&S rep at your school of the incident. They will ensure other processes are followed.
Contact the GVTA anytime in this process for assistance 250-595-0181 or healthandsafety@gvta.net.
