Justice, equity, diversity and inclusion are essential to fostering a healthy, supportive, and collaborative workplace. The Social Justice Committee of the GVTA is dedicated to creating a strong sense of belonging, fairness, empowerment, and leadership opportunities for all members. We work closely with equity-seeking groups within our membership to help shape bargaining objectives and to develop union and district policies that reflect our shared values. In collaboration with the school district, we advocate for the effective implementation of equity-focused policies at the school level. We are committed to supporting members who are 2SLGBTQIA+, racialized, and/or disabled/person with a disability, ensuring that every member feels seen, valued, and represented.
The SJ committee also works towards building the broader labour movement by supporting local, national and international campaigns that foster solidarity by strengthening peace and justice for all.
Our Social Justice Committee meets every [day] of the month at [time]. Check out the events page for more information on our meeting times.
Social Justice representatives are tasked with representing their equity-seeking colleagues and advocating for changes at a school-based level. To ensure your school has a social justice representative email sj@gvta.net.
