Join us on July 8, 9, and/or 10, 2026, for free STEAM Pro D workshops for teachers in Victoria. Presented by UBC Geering Up in collaboration with the Greater Victoria Teachers Association.
You will experience hands-on exploration of activities and design challenges aligned with BC's Science and ADST curriculum. You will leave with new ideas and lesson plans you can bring into your classroom!
Workshops will take place at the Greater Victoria School District Board Office, 556 Boleskine Rd, Victoria, BC.
Coffee and tea will be provided. Please pack your own snacks, lunch, and laptop.

The STEAM Escape: An Educational Escape Room Experience
Grades: 5-10
Step into the role of a student and participate in an immersive STEAM themed Escape Room! Collaborate with colleagues to solve riddles, discover hidden clues, and tackle challenges in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. Participants will leave with playful but practical strategies for creating narrative-driven activities that emphasize communication and collaboration.

From Ideas to Prototypes: Exploring Design in STEAM Education
Grades: 6+
In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore prototyping as a fundamental stage in the engineering design process and how it can be meaningfully integrated into classroom practice for grades 6–12. Through a scaffolded experience, educators will engage with additive manufacturing concepts while working through real-world engineering cases that guide their design decisions. The session emphasizes iterative thinking, creativity, and practical strategies to bring rapid prototyping into STEAM learning environments.

Bridging Subjects Through Design: Engaging ADST Challenges for Every Classroom
Grades: 4-7
This professional development session explores how the ADST (Applied Design, Skills, and Technologies) curriculum can be integrated across STEAM subjects. Participants engage in interactive design challenges that guide them through the ADST design process while making authentic cross-curricular connections. Educators gain practical strategies, adaptable activities, and assessment ideas to support integrated planning and deepen student engagement, with a focus on inquiry, creativity, and real-world problem solving to design meaningful, connected learning experiences.

The workshops will take place at the Greater Victoria School Board Office at 556 Boleskine Rd, Victoria, BC. There's free parking on site and nearby transit stops.
Why should I attend?
Geering Up workshops aim to help educators satisfy BC’s Science and ADST curriculum by providing them the opportunity to investigate STEAM in fun, innovative, and hands-on projects which can then be brought into their own classroom. Our workshops allow teachers to build future skills, gain tools, and knowledge, allowing them to inspire their students to explore a future in STEAM!
What do I need to bring?
Bring your lunch, water bottle, and a computer with internet connection. There will be no downloading of any software or programs. Materials will be provided by the Geering Up Team.
A minimum number of registrants is required for the workshops to run.
